Dustin Kirkland: Introduces manpg.es -- a URL shortener for Ubuntu manpages

05/05/2011

Dustin Kirkland, Core Developer, Ubuntu Server at Canonical, announces today manpg.es -- a URL shortener for Ubuntu manpages.

Three years ago today, Kirkland kicked off the Ubuntu Manpage Repository project with an RFC to the Ubuntu-Doc mailing list. "Millions of roff-to-html renderings and page views later, I'm really, really proud of the Ubuntu Manpage Repository," said Kirkland in his blog post. "It's such a convenient way to read traditional UNIX manual documentation, which may or may not be present on your local system."

Today though, Kirkland introduces manpg.es -- a URL shortener for Ubuntu manpages, for use in IRC, mail, wikis, microblogging, etc. Kirkland says manpg.es was inspired by Martin Pool's "excellent" pad.lv shortener for Launchpad.

More information about manpg.es can be found on Kirkland's blog—From The Canyon Edge.
